| | The UK currently produces over 27 million tonnes of household rubbish every year - of which 80% ends up in landfill sites. |
| | Since the 1990's the U.K has been running out of landfill space at an alarming rate, so since 2000 the government's Waste Strategy for England and Wales has set challenging national recycling targets for local councils. |
| | Nationwide, councils are now faced with the challenge of increasing recycling and composting of household rubbish to at least 25% by 2005. |
| | Magpie are committed to helping councils meet these targets. |

 |
| So How Does the Consultation Service Work |
| | Since working with the Brighton Environmental Body, Magpie has carried out numerous surveys monitoring local residents participation in recycling schemes. |
| | Engaging the public is a critical part if we are to continue to improve the UK's recycling performance and to meet government targets. |
| | The door-to-door consultation service is a novel approach, aiming to effectively communicate the local authority's recycling message to residents. Most homes benefit from educational information as well as practical advice. |
| | Having worked successfully in partnership with various councils, Magpie is experienced in providing an advisory service to help councils improve and promote the effectiveness of their recycling schemes. |
| | To date, Magpie has assisted in schemes alongside Adur, Mid Sussex, Horsham, Chichester and Croydon District Councils, as well as Worthing Borough Council, with projects designed to increase the number of people using kerbside collection programmes. |
| | Since April/May 2003 Magpie has visited more than 23,000 homes in the Horsham district distributing information packs, promoting and explaining the recycling scheme, as well as answering any resident's queries. |
| | Within the first 6 months of the project being launched recycling rates in Horsham improved by 22%, going on to a further 45%. |

| Testimonials |
| | "I would have no reservations in fully recommending the services of Magpie to another local authority and if everybody in the recycling business were as dedicated to their work, I'm sure the country's recycling rate would be a lot higher." |
| | Greg Charman, Recycling Project Officer for Horsham District Council. |
